TLDR - GIFs are everyone's favorite way to communicate online, visually. There is a way in Zoom to overlay any GIFs right onto your video using SPX Graphics for Zoom.

GIF overlay in Zoom

Did you know you can overlay GIFs right onto your video in Zoom? I don't mean sending GIFs in the chat but literally putting any GIF you want on top of your video! And the best part, you can do this all without leaving Zoom. Let me show you how.

Step 1 - Add SPX Graphics for Zoom

First, you need to add the SPX Graphics for Zoom app from the Zoom Marketplace. This is a Zoom plugin which you can think of as a "toolbox" where you can use many different kinds of "visual tools" to upgrade your Zoom experience.

Use this link to add SPX to your Zoom quick.

The SPX app is a Zoom app, meaning everything happens inside Zoom; no extra software is needed

Step 2 - Get the GIFler graphic from the store

Now that you have the toolbox ready, you need to get the GIF tool from the Store tab. The tool (or as we like to call them, graphics) for this is called GIFler and there are multiple ways of buying it.

  1. You can subscribe to just the GIFler graphic OR

  2. You can subscribe to the Pro plan which unlocks all graphics, base designs, and features of the app; which includes the GIFler, of course.

Step 3 - Learn to use the GIFs in your Zoom

Ok, now that you have the GIFler ready, you can start using it by going back to the main tab (SPX Graphics), click on the + icon from the additional layers menu, then select GIFler from the selection. Click Apply. Read this guide if you are having issues.

Now, open the GIFler (the dropdown) to see a full GIF controller. You will see 6 squares and a search bar below. These squares are slots where you can save your favorite GIFs to use quickly. The last square with the LIVE text means that you can drag a GIF in there to play it out once.

To find GIFs, type into the search bar and click search. When you find a GIF you like from the results, just drag-and-drop it into either one of the slots or the LIVE slot.

As an option, you can either put the GIF on the side of your video or make it full screen to cover the entire frame. Get creative with it!

And there you go! Now you can just click around to play GIFs, look for new GIFs; all without leaving Zoom! For extra information about the GIFler, see our Knowledge Base.

If you're new to the SPX Graphics for Zoom app, this is just one graphic out of many that we offer; and the list keeps growing! This GIFler is a fun graphic for enhancing engagement in Zoom but we have other graphics such as meeting agendas and meeting timers to make your meeting more productive. Tinker around the app yourself to see all that you can do with the app!

Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy your new GIF tool in Zoom😹
